Editor-in-chief & Digital Caravel principal

Madeira-born. Ten years operating calculator-led tax content, including simuladorsalario.pt (Portugal-national ranker). This site is editorial. I am not an OCC-certified accountant. Every tax claim is sourced to Portal das Finanças, Diário da República, or at.madeira.gov.pt. Every directory entry is verified against the OCC public member registry before listing. Actual tax advice is performed exclusively by OCC-certified accountants in the directory — this site exists to help you find the right one for your situation. I review methodology for every calculator on the site in partnership with OCC-certified advisors. The review panel is listed on the Editorial Policy page.

Why this exists

Madeira has ~260,000 residents + 14,000+ foreign-resident expats (5.5% of the population, highest in 11 years per INE). Nobody has an impartial bilingual directory of OCC-certified accountants. National tax calculators don't apply Madeira's 30% regional differential. Vendor-pushed blogs (Moloni, SaaS marketing) dominate the SERP without editorial neutrality. We built this to fix that: transparent calculators with Madeira's math right, a directory that names OCC numbers, and content that cites its sources.

How we work

  • Primary sources first. Every tax claim cites Portal das Finanças, Diário da República, AT Madeira, or the Segurança Social portal. Secondary interpretations (PwC, Doutor Finanças) are marked as such.
  • OCC verification. Every directory entry is cross-checked against the OCC public member registry before listing. Last-verified date shown on the profile.
  • Annual + mid-year refresh. Brackets and tables refresh in January. Rule changes land in /updates with source and date.
  • Editorial neutrality. We do not rank accountants in editorial content in exchange for payment. Featured placement is paid and clearly labelled.

How we make money

Three revenue streams, all disclosed:

  • Featured listings. €150–400/mo. Paid by the firm, never by the reader. Featured cards appear at the top of relevant filters but do not alter editorial rankings.
  • Per-lead referral fees. €50–200/booked consultation. When you click a firm via our directory and schedule, the firm pays us a referral fee. This does not affect the price you pay.
  • Software affiliate. Moloni, Xero, ContaFácil. Commission on subscriptions initiated via our links. Clearly labelled.

Trust and accuracy

Our calculators are estimates based on the 2026 rules as of the last-verified date shown on each page. Tax codes change. We commit to refreshing brackets every January and publishing mid-year updates as AT / Finanças releases them. For your situation, always confirm with an OCC-certified accountant — that's what the directory is for.
